ODAŞ has published its first Sustainability Report in compliant with GRI and TSRS standards. Prepared in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, the report provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s performance in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas, as well as its sustainability strategy and prioritization approach. While expanding its energy production capacity, ODAŞ continues to place environmental responsibilities at the forefront, building its sustainability strategy, launched in 2023, on the principle of “Responsible Growth.” Within this framework, the Çan2 Thermal Power Plant continues operations with an installed capacity of 340 MWm / 330 MWe, while the installed capacity of the natural gas power plant in Uzbekistan has been increased to 174 MW.
Achieved measurable gains through concrete actions
ODAŞ implemented its sustainability strategy through concrete investments, making environmental investments of approximately £250 million last year.Thanks to these investments, ODAŞ has reduced the volume of non-hazardous waste disposal by more than 50% over the last three years, by reintroducing process-generated fly ash and gypsum waste into the market as alternative raw materials. In the field of Waste Management, one of the key objectives includes saving approximately 29 million TL in disposal costs by supplying 302,500 tons of bottom ash annually to the cement industry.
Melih Yüceyurt, ODAŞ Finance and Investor Relations Director and Member of the Sustainability Committee, shared the following remarks on the report: “Our first sustainability report is not merely a reporting process, but also a strategic document that reflects our corporate capacity, goals, and commitment in the field of sustainability. The concrete steps we have taken under the motto ‘We Focus on Future’ demonstrate ODAŞ’s responsible and forward-looking approach. Through our double materiality-based prioritization analysis, we have defined our focus areas, which allow us to systematically evaluate our environmental, social, and governance performance and transparently share the outcomes with our stakeholders. By integrating sustainability into all our business processes, we will continue to create lasting value across all geographies where we operate.”
Sustainability Strategy Extends Beyond Economic Performance
ODAŞ approaches its sustainability strategy not solely through economic performance, but with a holistic perspective that encompasses environmental and social impacts as well. The company prioritises stakeholder engagement in decision-making processes by fostering dialogue with a broad stakeholder group, ranging from public institutions and non-governmental organisations to employees and young professionals. In this way, strategies are continuously updated in line with stakeholder expectations.
