ODAŞ prepares its employees against disasters with AFAD

The February 6 earthquake, one of the largest earthquakes in Turkey's history, has prompted companies to be prepared for natural disasters. One of the companies preparing for natural disasters such as earthquakes is ODAŞ.

ODAŞ Chief Mining Officer Ali Kemal Kazancı stated that they encourage their personnel to participate in the physical and online trainings offered by AFAD and ensure that they are equipped against disaster situations and said "In this context, 27 miners at our Çan2 Thermal Power Plant received a total of 80 hours of training in coordination with AFAD. 100 people participated in rescue operations.

We helped them obtain accreditation by supporting them with physical and online training opportunities provided by AFAD. In our mining group, the training of our 42-member team consisting of volunteers who participated in search and rescue operations after the 6 February earthquake continued throughout the year. Within the scope of AFAD Volunteer Trainings; they receive trainings from safe working to risk assessment, from security protocols to the organization and effective management of rescue operations.In addition, they are also supported with some psychological trainings provided by AFAD.

Kazancı reminded that ODAŞ took part in search and rescue operations with a total of 100 rescue expert miners in two different teams dispatched to the region after the earthquake and said, "30 rescue expert miners from our ODAŞ team took part in rescue operations in Kahramanmaraş-Afşin and the other 70 rescue expert miners took part in rescue operations in Hatay. Our rescue teams we sent to the region immediately after the earthquake participated in search and rescue operations. In addition to our aid trucks, technical equipment and technical personnel, 7 excavators, 20 technical personnel, 1 ambulance and 2 paramedics were actively involved in rescue operations. Our miners, working in coordination with AFAD teams, rescued a mother and her daughter from under under the rubble of the building inthe 105th hour of the earthquake.”

Stating that they support their employees with professional trainings provided by AFAD, Kazancı said: "We support a 'culture of continuous readiness' in order to ensure a more effective response in future disasters such as earthquakes. In addition to the training our miners in Soma and Kütahya received from AFAD, we have also started to provide search and rescue training to our employees at Çan2 Thermal Power Plant in Çanakkale. With these efforts, we aim to create a culture of volunteerism to provide faster and more effective assistance in disaster situations.
