Ahmet Can, President of ODAŞ Electricity Generation Group and Deputy Chairman of Suda Strategic Metal Dış Ticaret A.Ş., met with Akçansa General Manager Vecih Yılmaz at the signing ceremony between the two companies. This agreement, covering the supply of approximately 2 million tons of fly ash, aims to significantly raise sustainability standards in both the energy and cement industries. Through this cooperation, ODAŞ has taken another step in its efforts to minimize environmental impact and use resources more efficiently.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ahmet Can stated, "We are turning the fly ash generated at the Çan 2 Thermal Power Plant into a product and integrating it into the circular economy. We contribute to both our company and the national economy by using resources as efficiently as possible in line with our sustainable growth goals. This cooperation is crucial for promoting a wider acceptance of recycling waste into the economy within our sector." He highlighted that the Çan 2 Thermal Power Plant, with a capacity of 340 MW, is one of the few private-sector power plants in Turkey that holds an Environmental Permit and License.
Can noted: "Our plant's flue gas treatment system operates with a 99.3% efficiency rate using the latest technological equipment. Additionally, it stands out as one of the few plants without a bypass feature in its flue gas treatment system, adopting environmentally friendly practices among conventional power plants. Furthermore, we are one of the first coal plants to have obtained a zero-waste certificate. Through our waste management policy, we contribute to reducing the consumption pressure on natural resources and establishing a sustainable supply-production chain that preserves resources for future generations."
Can also mentioned that they sell fly ash abroad, stating, "Since 2020, we have exported more than 1.3 million tons of fly ash and synthetic gypsum (FGD Gypsum) to the USA, Canada, and European countries."
Akçansa General Manager Vecih Yılmaz remarked, "With our vision to become Turkey's sustainable building materials company with the highest stakeholder value, we continue our operations with the goal of minimizing our environmental impact. Fly ash, which is a valuable material and alternative raw material in cement and ready-mix concrete production, supports a production process that minimizes environmental impacts and uses resources efficiently when used correctly. This step is very important."
