We Strengthened Our Search and Rescue Team for Disaster Preparedness!

Volunteering

At ODAŞ, we strive to make a meaningful impact on different segments of society through initiatives that foster solidarity. With this vision, we have established the ODAŞ Search and Rescue Team in collaboration with AFAD at our Çan2 Thermal Power Plant, enhancing our employees’ awareness and preparedness for potential disasters.

In the wake of the devastating earthquake on February 6, 2023, approximately 100 ODAŞ employees, including miners and staff from various roles, voluntarily joined the search and rescue efforts in the disaster zone. This critical experience reinforced the importance of well-trained teams in crisis situations, inspiring us to take further action.

Volunteers in Action

Building on this experience, ODAŞ established the Çan2 Thermal Power Plant Search and Rescue Team to ensure our employees are equipped with the necessary skills to respond effectively to emergencies. Comprising volunteer employees, the team is undergoing the AFAD accreditation process and participates in an extensive year-round training program. These volunteers receive training in safe working principles, risk assessment, security protocols, and the coordination and management of rescue operations. Additionally, they benefit from psychological support programs offered by AFAD. To reinforce their skills, team members take part in drills both within the power plant and in external exercises, ensuring full preparedness for real-world scenarios.

‘ODAŞ to Become the Third Accredited Organization in the Region’

Highlighting the critical role of organized and well-trained teams in disaster response, Ali Kemal Kazancı, President of ODAŞ Mining and Construction Group, stated: “Our volunteer miners and colleagues played an active role in the aftermath of the February 6 earthquakes. Their firsthand experience in the disaster zone underscored the significant impact that trained teams can have in times of crisis. That’s why we are committed to strengthening our Çan2 Thermal Search and Rescue Team and continuing our training efforts. Once the AFAD accreditation process is complete, ODAŞ will become the third accredited organization in the region. We will persist in our training and preparedness efforts with unwavering dedication.”
