Zehra Zeynep Dereli, ODAŞ International President, answered questions from Business World Global Magazine!

ODAŞ International President Zehra Zeynep Dereli emphasized that Mother’s Day is a day to recognize unseen efforts, stating that mothers working in the energy sector manage to maintain balance with great dedication despite the demanding pace of the industry. We asked ODAŞ International President Zehra Zeynep Dereli, who defines motherhood as the strongest form of patience, love, and sacrifice, to share her thoughts on Mother’s Day.

What does Mother’s Day mean to you?

Mother’s Day is a moment for us to pause and truly reflect. It allows us to recognize how valuable the patience, understanding, and support our mothers provide under all circumstances truly are. Rather than expressing grand words, what makes this day meaningful to me is being able to offer a sincere thank you and genuinely remember the place they hold in our lives.

The true meaning of Mother’s Day lies in one’s ability to dissolve their own existence into another’s; in other words, reaching the wisdom of setting aside the “self” for “the other.” Being a mother is the clearest proof that a person can love someone else more than themselves and devote their very breath to another’s life. A mother is the most graceful form of patience and the purest manifestation of love. For me, this day is not merely a celebration; it is a day to sincerely appreciate the silent effort and unconditional support embodied by our mothers and to once again remember the value of that school of kindness.

How do you evaluate the intense and demanding work pace faced by mothers working in the energy sector? What kind of work environment does ODAŞ offer for female employees and mothers?

The energy sector, with its dynamic structure and nature that requires high levels of responsibility, involves an extremely demanding work pace. The dedication demonstrated by our female colleagues, who also undertake the significant responsibility of motherhood within this environment, is truly admirable. As ODAŞ, we place great importance on providing an inclusive and equitable working environment that supports work-life balance for our female employees and mothers. We adopt a flexible and supportive approach to help ODAŞ employees establish a sustainable balance in both their professional and personal lives.

On the occasion of Mother’s Day, do you carry out any motivational or social responsibility initiatives within your corporate culture aimed at female employees and mothers?

As part of our corporate culture, we prioritize creating an environment where our colleagues feel valued. We actively reflect this approach not only in our business processes but also through our social responsibility projects. ODAŞ People Volunteers consists of various volunteering initiatives in which each of our colleagues can participate throughout the year according to their areas of interest. A significant portion of these projects focuses on women and mothers, contributing to the empowerment of women in local development initiatives.
